This was a large barn resoration project that included rebuiling crumbled foundation (see pictures further down), reframing and leveling for the new overhead doors, and a ton of working with old barn construction, off angles, and uneven cedar siding to make the finished product look straight and professional.
Barns have been around for ages. And after a hundred years, even the best of foundations erode leaving not much left but gravel and feild stones.
Only sections of the foundation are done at a time. Before the foundation is removed the barn structure is elevated slightly and supported. In this case we use thick walled steel posts to support a load bearing beam.
A third post was added for additional support.
The old rotted plate beams are removed. As you can see, they are completely rotted through, completely unusable.
Foundation Repair
Some of the cedar siding is temoparily removed, the old crumbled foundation is removed, and a new foundation is poured.
Back to this beam. It was rotted halfway through but was still structually sound in the back.

The rotted part of the beam was cut out. The beam was then laminated with 4x4's by bolting them all the way through.
Here is after picture with the new foundation poured and the new plate installed and coated with foundation coating.
The cedar siding that was temporarily removed was replaced. Doorways have been framed out to correct measurements. Steel siding has been started and plywood was used for temporary doors.
